Seconds out, round 2 for Hayes Carll

He wowed the audience on Stage 2 yesterday and now US singer songwriter Hayes Carll brought his bourbon soaked, bar room story acoustic country folk to Stage 1. As entertaining for his anecdotes as for his sublime music, the set proved it was a firm 2-0 to the Man from the states.

First up on Stage 1, Crooked Still

Boston band Crooked Still were the first to take to the main stage this morning. With a medley of instruments, including a fiddle, a banjo, a bass and a cello the band flew in from Belfast early this morning to make their Cambridge Folk Festival debut.

The band managed to shake off their tiredness (and hangovers - we saw a few of them eating a full English breakfast backstage this morning to remedy the after-effects of too much Guinness!) to provide a great set of bluegrass and folk.

Hot busking by Steamchicken

The Mojo signing tent kicks off on Saturday with Steamchicken busking and gathering a crowd of toe tapping fans.

...and here's what the Flashmob looked like!

The Festival's first flashmob!

That was fun! At 10.45am the final text was sent to the hundreds of people signed up to the BBC Radio 2 Text Club with final instructions for them to head to Stage 1 and to 'bring an instrument'.

At 11am Jon Boden arrived moving through the crowd on a Festival buggy armed with a mischevious grin and a violin. What then ensued was a mass 'sing-a-long' and 'play-a-long' involving Jon leading a 150 strong crowd in some traditional folk tunes. A whole lot of fun for all concerned. Our thanks to Jon for being a true Festival star!

Somethings happening at 11am today...but what?

So...did you sign up to the Radio 2 Text club? (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/cambridgefolkfestival/2009/text-club/)

If you did, you will have been receiving some texts with some mysterious clues about something that will happen laster this morning (Saturday). It's going to be fun! Pop back to the blog later to find out what it was about!
